Eat this edible cookie dough without all the worry! Made without eggs and toasted flour so you can enjoy the whole bowl full!
What’s better than eating straight-up cookie dough? Um, nothing. This Edible Cookie Dough will satisfy all of your cravings so grab a spoon and enjoy.
Edible Cookie Dough Ingredients
You’re going to need a lot of the same ingredients needed when making regular cookie dough minus a couple! Here’s what you need:
- All-Purpose Flour – this fills out a lof of the dough and is heat-treated to kill off any lingering bacteria.
- Salted Butter – I used salted butter so I wouldn’t have to add salt later. Make sure it is softened.
- Granulated Sugar – to sweeten! This is creamed with the butter.
- Brown Sugar – also to sweeten but to add some flavor too.
- Vanilla – this is used for flavor.
- Milk – because there aren’t any eggs in this recipe the moisture needs to come from somewhere else, milk! Add a little bit at a time until a dough forms.
- Mini Chocolate Chips – you could use regular-sized chocolate chips but mini ones are so much cuter and perfect for little scoops.
How is this Cookie Dough Safe to Eat?
There are two reasons why this edible cookie dough is safe to eat:
- Heat Treated Flour: raw flour holds the potential to hold E. Coli and Salmonella bacteria. By toasting it before mixing it into the dough all of that bacteria is killed off and the flour is then safe to eat.
- No Eggs: eating raw eggs can bring on salmonella and no one wants that. So no eggs in the mixture means no worries. We substitute milk instead.
Variations
This Edible Cookie Dough recipe is for a basic chocolate chip cookie dough but you could always change it up and make different flavors!
- Chocolate Chips: use any sort of chocolate chips in this recipe, dark chocolate, milk, or even white. You could even add-in peanut butter or butterscotch chips.
- Other Mix-Ins: consider sprinkles, chopped nuts as other mix-ins!
- Cocoa Powder: use 2/3 cup of heat-treated flour and 1/3 cup cocoa powder to make a chocolate cookie dough base.
- Almond Extract: use 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla and 1/2 teaspoon of almond extract for a sugar cookie dough base.
With these various options, the flavor combinations for edible cookie dough are endless! Chocolate peanut butter chip, sugar cookie with sprinkles, white chocolate macadamia, pick your poison 😉
