Ingredients for Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

For Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars you’re going to need just about everything you would normally use for cookies, plus a few mix-ins. Here’s what you need:

  • Butter – this is used for flavor and texture.
  • Brown Sugar + Granulated Sugar – both are used to sweeten but brown sugar helps keep these cookie bars soft.
  • Egg + Egg Yolks – these two are used for texture as well as structure. We are going for soft, thick and chewy here!
  • Vanilla – used for flavor.
  • Flour – regular all-purpose flour is all you need. This fills out the cookie bars.
  • Baking Soda + Salt – baking soda helps with rising and salt balances all of the flavors.
  • Walnuts – I love adding walnuts to this recipe. Their nutty flavor provides the perfect crunch.
  • Mini Chocolate Chips + Chocolate Chunks – two sizes of chocolate also helps with overall texture. So good!

How to Make Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

This is a super simple recipe that follows most cookie making formulas. Butter, sugars, eggs, vanilla, dry ingredients then mix-ins! For full details on how to make Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars, see the recipe card down below!

  1. Preheat oven. Line a 9×13 pan with foil or parchment paper, set aside.
  2. Melt butter in a large microwave-safe bowl then stir in brown sugar and granulated sugar.
  3. Mix in egg, egg yolk, and vanilla until light in color.
  4. Next add in flour, baking soda, and salt. Be sure to scrape the sides of the bowl to ensure a well-mixed dough.
  5. Finally mix in the chocolate chips, chunks, and walnuts. Press dough into prepared pan.
  6. Bake until the center is mostly cooked then cool completely before cutting.

Note: For easy cutting, lift bars by parchment paper or foil out of the pan once completely cool. Place on a cutting board and slice away! However, if you want to cut into these babies while they are still warm go for it!
