Key Lime Pie Recipe

Gather up these eight ingredients to be on your way to the best Key Lime Pie!

  • Graham Crackers, Granulated Sugar, and Butter – these two are used to make the graham cracker crust. Either crush your own graham crackers or buy the pre-crushed package. Butter holds the crumbs together while the sugar sweetens the crust.
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk – the main sweetener to the pie and this is where all of that creaminess comes from. Sweetened condensed milk reacts with the lime juice and becomes thick, creating the filling!
  • Egg Yolks – this is also for the filling and ensures that it sets after baking.
  • Lime Juice and Zest – use fresh lime juice and zest if possible! Use key limes or regular limes.
  • Whipped Cream an optional but highly recommended garnish that makes your pie look incredible!

How to Make Key Lime Pie

This easy Key Lime Pie recipe consists of making the crust, making the filling and garnishing! It’s all super simple, I promise. For full details see the recipe card below.

  1. Preheat the oven.
  2. Mix crushed graham crackers, butter, and sugar together. Pour into a glass pie dish and press evenly around the bottom and sides. Bake until light golden brown.
  3. While the crust is baking make the filling. Stir together the sweetened condensed milk, egg yolks, lime juice, and zest. Pour the filling into the crust, smooth the top then bake until set!
  4. Cool completely before covering and refrigerating.
  5. Decorate with whipped cream and fresh lemon zest. Slice into pieces and serve!

Storing

One of the best parts about this Key Lime Pie recipe is that it can be stored for up to 5 days in the fridge! Which means it’s a great make-ahead recipe.

Don’t forget to cover with plastic wrap. You wouldn’t want dried out pie!

Freezing Instrutions

Want to make Key Lime Pie ahead of time by freezing it? Good news! You can!

To freeze: Make the pie as directed and let it cool completely. Do not add any garnishes (whipped cream of limes). Wrap tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil, then place in a freezer-safe bag. Freeze for up to 2 months!

To Serve: Transfer the pie from the freezer to the fridge and let thaw overnight. Unwrap, top with garnishes and serve!

  • 3 whole egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  • Mix crushed graham crackers, butter, and sugar together. Pour into a glass pie dish and press evenly around the bottom and sides. Bake for 8 minutes or until light golden brown.
  • While the crust is baking make the filling. Stir together the sweetened condensed milk, egg yolks, lime juice, and zest. Pour the filling into the crust, smooth the top then bake 15-20 minutes or until set!
  • Cool completely before covering and refrigerating.
  • Decorate with whipped cream and fresh lemon zest. Slice into pieces and serve!
